Dr. Steve Booth was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and raised in Williamsburg. He received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the College of William and Mary, where he also played collegiate baseball. Following graduation, Dr. Booth attended dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he graduated magna cum laude.
While in dental school, he earned other academic honors, including four consecutive years on the Dean’s List, a Commonwealth Scholarship based on academic merit, appointment to the Honor Council for four years, appointment as co-chair for the New Dentist Committee, appointment as a student instructor, and placement on the student admissions committee.
Dr. Booth joined Dr. Penterson in 2005 which began the development of the Penterson and Booth practice we have today. Presently, he is a member of the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, the Richmond Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
In his spare time, Dr. Booth enjoys sports, outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Lynn Booth
“I have enjoyed working in a family practice with both my father and husband over the years and appreciate the special relationship and mentorship from working with my father until his retirement. Over the years our practice has grown to include so many wonderful patients and their family and friends which led us to expand and add more dentists and team members. We are so happy to have found Dr. Lacey, Dr. Morgan, and Dr. Gray who exemplify the strong values, character, and compassionate patient care that has been so important to our practice all of these years. We have the opportunity to pursue our individual interests within the dental field, which adds to the service we provide our patients. I am passionate about making sure our patients have the best experience possible and addressing all their dental concerns. Over the years I have treated many patients that struggle with orofacial pain/TMJ discomfort and it has been my goal to expand my knowledge to be able to help them. I am also a provider for Invisalign® and SureSmiles® and enjoy using this tool along with other cosmetic procedures to satisfy patients’ desires and improve their smiles. Dr. Lacey Blackwell
Dr. Lacey Blackwell grew up in Roanoke and attended Clemson University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology. She returned to Virginia to attend Virginia Commonwealth School of Dentistry where she received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
While in dental school, Lacey was chosen to serve as a student coordinator for the Mission of Mercy (MOM) projects, an organization dedicated to providing dental care to underserved populations across the state of Virginia. These projects are among Lacey’s most memorable experiences in dental school and she is committed to staying involved with the MOM projects throughout her career.
Lacey is passionate about educating her patients with regard to their oral health and enjoys seeing patients of all ages! Outside of the office, she enjoys running, trying new recipes, traveling with her husband Carter, and playing with their dog Milton.
Dr. Morgan Stroud
Dr. Morgan loves taking care of her patients and treating everyone as if they are part of her own family. Her thoughtfulness, patience, and passion for the practice of dentistry guide Dr. Morgan in delivering high-quality care in a relaxing and professional environment.
Dr. Morgan L. Stroud grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina. She received her BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree with honors from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Dr. Morgan practiced pharmacy in eastern North Carolina for several years before pursuing her passion for dentistry.
She grew up surrounded by family in the dental field. Her mother was a dental hygienist and her father an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, so it was no surprise when Dr. Morgan decided to further her career in dentistry. She went on to obtain her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree with honors from East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine and was a recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship. Upon graduation, Dr. Morgan was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. She then completed a General Practice Residency at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Dr. Morgan continues to stay current with the latest advancements in dentistry through continuing education courses.
Dr. Morgan is excited to get involved with the local community and settle down in Richmond with her husband. In her free time, she loves to hike, cook, spend time with family, and enjoy the great outdoors.
Dr. Gray Thomas
“I love practicing dentistry as it is extremely rewarding being able to build trust with your patients and helping them achieve the smile of their dreams. Knowing how much a smile can impact someone’s confidence, it brings me great joy to help patients become comfortable in the dental chair and build their confidence from the inside out as we help guide and improve their oral health.”
Dr. Gray Thomas was born and raised in Greer, SC and knew he wanted to be a dentist from age 12 due to the impact his pediatric dentist and orthodontist made on him. He graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Health Science and a minor in Business Administration. After Clemson, Dr. Gray received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. During his time in dental school, Dr. Gray had the opportunity to serve on the Dental Student Alumni Council and was involved in organizations such as Delta Sigma Delta, Dental Community Fellowship, The Night to Shine through the Tim Tebow Foundation, and served as the Class of 2021 Social Chairman. Due to his diligence both in the classroom and in the clinical setting, Dr. Gray was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
Upon graduation from MUSC, Dr. Gray went on to pursue a General Practice Residency at the Prisma Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC. It was during this program that he was able to expand his education and experience in General Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Oral and IV Conscious Sedation, Removable Prosthodontics, Endodontics, as well as treating Medically Complex and Special Needs Patients. Dr. Gray is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Gray loves being able to travel and spend time with his wife, Ellie, a Richmond native, and their chocolate lab, Mocha. He also loves all things related to Clemson sports, as well as spending time outdoors whether it be at the lake or beach, fishing, hunting, or golf.
Dr. Carolyn Recupero
For Dr. Carolyn Recupero, dentistry is truly a family legacy. Growing up in Easton, Massachusetts, with both her parents and grandfather practicing dentistry, she spent much of her childhood at the family dental office. She began working at the practice during middle school, where she witnessed firsthand the positive impact her family had on their patients, which inspired her to follow in their footsteps.
Dr. Recupero earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University, majoring in Comprehensive Science with minors in Ethics and Classical Studies. She then returned to Richmond, Virginia, the city where her mom grew up and a place she has always considered a second home. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, following in the footsteps of her parents, who had graduated from the VCU School of Dentistry three decades earlier.
After dental school, Dr. Recupero completed a two-year General Practice Residency at the University of Virginia, where she fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a Wahoo while expanding her clinical expertise. During her residency, she completed advanced training in oral surgery, restorative dentistry, endodontics, pediatric dentistry, and the care of medically complex and special care patients.
Dr. Recupero is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Virginia Dental Association, the Richmond Dental Society, and the International Dental Implant Association.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Recupero enjoys running, practicing yoga, cheering on the UVA and Villanova sports teams, and spending time with her family in both Massachusetts and Virginia. She is excited to be back in the Richmond area and to begin her career as a third-generation dentist, carrying forward the tradition of compassionate, patient-centered care that first inspired her to pursue dentistry.
Dr. Robert Penterson (Retired)
Dr. Robert Penterson grew up in White Plains, New York, and went to Lehigh for his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. From there, he moved to Northern Virginia to get his master’s in business from George Mason University. He met his wife Cathy while working as an engineer at PEPCO. He decided to make a career change and pursue dentistry at VCU School of Dentistry.
He and Cathy fell in love with the Richmond area, which lead him to open the practice in Midlothian in 1981. Since then, Dr. Penterson has formed many connections within the community and established great bonds with his patients. He retired in 2018; however, he had come out of retirement to help care for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of 2022, Dr. Penterson if officially enjoying his retirement.
Dr. Penterson has many hobbies and interests, including sailing, tennis, and woodworking. He and Cathy also love cooking, traveling, and spending time with their grandchildren.
